Duplex 32205 forging patta was created as a commodity that could improve some technological vulnerabilities on the market of standard austenitic and ferritic stainless steels. Both have poor strength, low-temperature ferrous steels and very little stress-corrosion resistance to austenitic steels. Patta Forging Duplex 32205 has a microstructure divided between austenite and ferrite approximately 50:50. This reduces plate thicknesses used in manufacturing processes which reduce the weight of items like pressure vessels, storage tanks and structural applications such as bridges.

The improved corrosion resistance is a major feature of Duplex stainless. No single measure of corrosion resistance exists, but it is commonly used as a way of comparing the relative corrosion strength of different steel rates in the Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN).
